Has Jesuit and Marist education produced Democratic Political Leaders in Zambia?

This paper presents the findings of a quantitative survey conducted between 1996 and 1997, examining the influence of the Jesuit and Marist education systems on Zambia's political environment. The study sample included 29 former students from Canisius, St. Paul’s, and Chassa Secondary Schools, employed at the University of Zambia, as well as 50 pupils from the same institutions. While the results indicated a link between the reintroduction of the multiparty system and missionary education, they also revealed other key factors, such as the collapse of communism in the Soviet Union, Zambia’s economic challenges, and the broader wave of political change sweeping across Africa.
